Boston Uprising Part Ways with Head Coach Ascoft

Bryan RockwoodBy Bryan RockwoodNovember 9, 2022Updated:November 9, 20222 Mins Read

In the very early stages of the offseason, teams are looking to make moves quick. Organizations want to give themselves ample time to find the best available option for their team. At the same time, coaches and players are hoping to do the same when they feel it is time to move on. For Valentin “Ascoft” Wulfman, that was exactly the case. On Wednesday Novemeber 9, the Boston Uprising announced the departure of interim Head Coach Ascoft.

Today we mutually part ways with @Ascoft_OW, our head coach.

Thank you for being a huge part of the Uprising family, and for all the work and passion you’ve poured into our team the past 3 years.

Wherever the road may lead, we know you will do great things. 💙 pic.twitter.com/Kt4Mh8uL15

Ascoft has been with the Boston Uprising since 2020 when he joined the organization as an Assistant Coach. As the season went on, Ascoft assumed the Head Coach role as then HC Vytis “Mineral” Lasaitis took a step back from his position. Though Boston started the year poorly, they fought back to reach the Play-In group stage where they ultimately fell to the Atlanta Reign.

In 2021 the Uprising brought in Seung-hyun “Lori” Kim to lead the team into the new season. The addition of Lori knocked Ascoft back down to an assistant role. With Lori and Ascoft leading the charge, the Uprising had their best since since 2018, finishing 7-9.

However in 2022, Lori was relieved us his duties and Ascoft has once again found himself in the captain’s chair. Though Boston couldn’t find their way into the Grand Finals playoff bracket, the team finished 10/14 and notched their first double-digit win season in four years. Ascoft noted that it was his decision to leave the team at this time, most likely in search of a new team looking for a Head Coach.

With the departure of Ascoft, Boston now looks to fill the Head Coach position for the 2023 season.
