Joel Embiid Posts Career-High 59 Points

Avyay SriperumbudurBy Avyay SriperumbudurNovember 14, 2022Updated:November 14, 20223 Mins Read

On November 13, 2022, Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid posted a career-high 59 points. Here’s an overview of Embiid’s historic performance, as well as a look at his career and the 76ers season.

59 Points

In a 105-98 win against the Utah Jazz, Embiid put up 59 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists and seven blocks. This gives him a new career-high in points and ties his previous career-high in blocks. Though Embiid shot 1-for-5 from three, he was extremely efficient in the paint, shooting 18-for-23 on 2-point field goals. Shooting 68% from the field in total, Embiid was dominant and efficient.

In the win, Embiid also added a steal and had a +/- of +25 and scored his 59 points in only 36 minutes of play. Since the NBA started counting blocks as a statistic in 1974, no one has had a 50-point, 10 rebound, five assist, five block game until Embiid’s performance. He also notched 26 of his 59 points in the fourth quarter alone.

Embiid’s Career

Joel “The Process” Embiid has had an impressive career. After attending the University of Kansas, he was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers with the third pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. He’s stayed with the 76ers since then, though he didn’t play in the 2014-2015 season or the 2015-2016 season due to a foot injury. Since then, he’s averaging 26.1 points per game, 11.3 rebounds per game, and 3.3 assists per game for his career. He’s put up these numbers with an effective field goal percentage of 52%.

Embiid arguably had his best season last year. He led the 76ers past the Toronto Raptors in the first round of the playoffs and took the Miami Heat to six games. That season, “The Process” averaged 30.6 points per game, 11.7 rebounds per game, and 4.2 assists per game. Embiid was the scoring champion of the league last year and is a five-time All-Star.

76ers Squad

The additions of De’Anthony Melton, PJ Tucker, and Danuel House Jr. are the main changes to the 76ers squad this year. Tucker, a 37-year-old guard-forward combination started the night of Embiid’s career high. Additionally, each of the three new 76ers additions is in rotation.

Overall, Joel Embiid’s big night is a good sign for the 76ers. It will be interesting to see if Embiid can keep playing at a high level and if his teammate James Harden can step up and help them be contenders.
